A Long Journey 16x20 by Chrissie Park MacNeil

Chrissie is a self-taught painter from Gillams, a small community near Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Like so many other visual artists, she has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. She came to Fredericton in 1997, where she now lives with her husband and two kids.

Chrissie was recently accepted by the Charlotte Glencross Gallery for an exhibition of her work, including paintings of Atlantic coastal scenes. These are scheduled to be displayed at the Gallery during March and April 2010. Chrissie paints in acrylics. She is available for commission work, and can be contacted by email at park_chrissie@hotmail.com.

This piece is called “A Long Journey.” The monarch butterfly migrates over 2000 miles, from Canada to Mexico, without ever having been to its destination. It is believed that the monarch uses the magnetic field of the earth and the position of the sun to find its final destination in Mexico where it spends the winter. Quite an amazing accomplishment for an insect!
