Arts Erosion in Peril

Arts Erosion in Peril 20x20 Helen Mòrag McKinnon

Artist Statement
“This painting was done because I am upset with the erosion of the arts in the school system. It represents people going through school, and becoming non creative and lacking spark as the arts die around them.” Thank you Helen for donating 100% to kids.

A native speaker of Gaelic, musician, and retired French Immersion Public School teacher, Helen Mòrag McKinnon has been interested in photography since she received her first camera at the age of ten. Upon retirement, she turned her hobby into a business Momentous Soul Photography. Having always been awestruck by the incredible beauty of nature, she continues to be fascinated with colour, texture, shape, and patterns.

Helen has had four showings and has had one of her more modern works published in New Brunswick’s perpetual calendar. Her work can be found at The Discovery Gallery & Gift Shop in Oromocto, Oromocto Veterinary Hospital, Oromocto Therapeutic Treatment Clinic, and Oromocto Arts and Learning Centre.

During the past two years, Helen has won a few of photo awards – one for the Atlantic Region and one at the National level. You can explore her photography at www.freelakepromotions.com or Momentous Soul Photography Facebook.

Helen’s passions include family, friends, church, music, her dogs, paper crafts, gardening, reading, Gaelic and theatre arts. 357-3838 and email eidhmorag@rogers.com.

The two dimensional aspect of the thumbnail does not do justice to the texture that is evident in this piece when you see it firsthand. Nor does the colour translate as effectively over the internet. I suggest you drop by the restaurant and see the work in person. The importance of this theme cannot be overstated. This auction is to support the arts with children who do not have the means to take lessons. How better can we make sure the arts continue to survive? Thanks to Helen for creating and donating this piece.
