Brenda Despres, a local artist and amateur photographer, remembers painting her first landscape using leftover house paint and a piece of fibreboard she found in her parents’ basement when she was a teenager. Although the desire to paint simmered just below the surface, her second attempt at landscape painting did not occur until 2006 – more than 35 years later – when she signed up for a 4-week session of art classes. Brenda has since completed more than 80 acrylic paintings, including several commissioned pieces and two exterior murals for the Minto Municipal Building.
Her first solo exhibition, entitled “Paint & Pixels – The Art & Photography of Brenda L. Despres” runs from November 1st to December 17th, 2011 at the Minto Public Library and will feature more than 30 paintings and a selection of photographs. She is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” as a tribute to her two very special grandchildren who live in Fredericton.
