Fall Serenity

Fall Serenity 30x12 digital art by Carol Randall

Photographer Carol Randall
As a child I always had a camera in my hands taking pictures of either our dogs (German Shepherds) or of members of our equine family (ponies and Standardbreds). Once I entered the workforce I took a photography course from the local YMCA and developed a love for scenic photography.

While living in Montréal I joined the Montréal Camera Club. Here I improved my ‘eye’ for the ‘perfect’ shot from the weekly critique, and at the end of my eight years stay in the big city, I was asked to judge several competitions. As a result of Polio as a young child I have been unable to handle heavy and/or complicated photography equipment, so compared to today’s cameras basically a ‘point and shoot’ has been my tool. I believe you can have the best equipment money can buy, but if you don’t have an ‘eye’ for photography, then your chances of having a ‘winner’ are limited.

After I moved back to Fredericton in 1980 I joined Photo Fredericton and was fortunate to have a couple of my scenic photos accepted in a cross-Canada exhibit. Photography then took a back-seat for a few years while I pursued other interests in the sporting world. In 1994 dogs again became an important part of my life. With the introduction of digital cameras, photo enhancement software, and the encouragement of my sister, photography once again became a source of enjoyment for me. Today with my camera tucked in the basket of my electric scooter, I try not to miss an opportunity to capture that perfect shot in Fredericton, with its many heritage buildings and over 85km of walking trails along both sides of the St. John River.

I am honoured to have the opportunity to place one of my pieces of photography/digital art in the Art Auction showcase at Isaac’s Way Restaurant.

  1. Great image! I could immediately conjure up the feel of the warm autumn sun on my face, along with memories of those sweet woods smells.
