Derek Davidson
“When I paint people in their activities I get a quick painting: the people will have moved before much thought can be put to the brush. Out-door scene painting gives more time for details. Portraits and still-life allow even more time for details. Painting from sports images completes the cycle: a quick brush is used to capture the motion, but not details.”
Artist Statement
Painting can be compared to catch and release fishing: each stage involving an interpretation. I catch and interpret what I see, and the viewer interprets the released image. I consider a painting successful when I can feel the motion in the picture.
