Flower Girl 10x20 by artist Chrissie Park-MacNeil

Chrissie Park-MacNeil
I am a self-taught painter with a passion for painting. I moved here from Newfoundland in 1997 and since then I have been able to sell my paintings and also do commission work. Feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to talk, and take on new projects. Please email at park_chrissie@hotmail.com.

About the Painting
With this piece, I wanted to try out an acrylic molding paste. It is something I’d been wanting to try, but shied away from because I didn’t know much about it. I used the paste to add texture to the petals, but at first I wasn’t happy with the results. Rather than start over, my husband Paul suggested I first walk away and look at it later with a fresh eye. When I did this I was still unsure, but then Paul said he saw a hint of the shape of a woman in the middle of the flower. Then I realized I wanted my painting to fool the eye: at first glance you would see the deep red pansy, but upon a closer look the flower becomes a beautiful Mexican folk dancer, swinging her dress. My painting didn’t turn out the way that I had envisioned it, but it worked out in the end. That is how this piece became the “Flower Girl.”
