Artist Statement - Kris LeBlanc
I’ll never forget the first time I saw the majestic Rocky Mountains and the staggering beauty of the lakes of the Okanagan Valley. I felt an overwhelming sense of freedom and possibility. I’d never felt anything quite like it in my life. Painting gives me that same sense of freedom. I am inspired by beautiful landscapes and vivid colours, and I’m at my happiest when I combine those two elements and let my imagination fly.
I have always loved being creative. I sing, play the guitar and write my own songs. I have been drawing since fifth grade, but I didn’t start painting until 2009 after a friend gave me art supplies for Christmas. I discovered I could take my creativity to a whole different level with a paint brush. At 32 years old, I found my passion.
A native of Moncton, NB, I grew up in Fredericton but spent eight years living in western Canada before moving back east to raise a family in 2008. Whether living on the west or east coast, I am inspired by my surroundings every day and look forward to creating more works of art for many years to come.
