Isaac’s Way Restaurant… Famous?

At about dawn on May 28th, myself (William Beatty) and a crew of fifteen other local filmmakers knocked on the doors of Isaac’s Way Restaurant preparing for what would be a hectic but successful day of filming a short film titled Second Hand Smoke.

Some of the crew for the film "Second Hand Smoke" (L to R) Writer/Director William Beatty, Cinematographer Jesse Anthony, and C-Camera Operator Chris Gillies

Earlier that month we (my producer Jon Blizzard and I) had come to Isaac’s Way scouting for a location, and as soon as I walked in I knew this was the place. About 80% of the script takes place in a restaurant, centering around a guy trying to win back the love of his life… with a rather unique strategy. So it required more than just your average restaurant locale. In a lot of situations you can change your script to work with a location, whereas this film offered no allowances and needed a location to flow seamlessly with the script. We shot with three cameras, and probably the best crew New Brunswick has to offer, not too mention a cast of immensely talented up and coming actors!

As a side note:  Isaac’s Way also turned out to be a great spot for production meetings prior to filming. I think we may have even come up with reasons to have meetings just to go and eat there. I recommend the lamb burger.

All in all this was such a positive experience.  Jason and his staff were more than accommodating and very supportive of the entire process. I am looking forward to completing this film, and hope to work with Jason and his staff in the future.

  1. Glad to see the support for local filmmakers in Fredericton, kudos to Isaac’s Way. I’ll be looking out for the film if it’s playing in town.
