Spectrum (30 inches wide) by Molly Nugent

Born of two very creative parents, Molly Nugent grew up in New Denmark, New Brunswick. Although Molly did not start painting until she was 27, she credits her immediate and extended family for always showing her ways to express her creativity in every day life.

Molly started painting after attending an art workshop for teachers in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Upon returning to teach grade 1/2, she shared her new passion for art with her students. At home, she found time to experiment with paints (mostly acrylics) while her puppy Cooper obediently slept at her feet. Molly is sure that if authenticity of one of her paintings was ever questioned, D.N.A. from one of Cooper’s hairs could be recovered from her painting to prove its authenticity.

Molly likes to experiment with different techniques and acrylic mediums. She has also been known to use everyday household items to paint with and provide texture to her pieces, including old CDs, paper towel tubes, Styrofoam, and things from nature.

Molly is currently teaching physical education and health at Minto Memorial High School. As a teacher who understands the important role that art plays in the development of children, Molly is most excited to have her painting auctioned off to help support youth dance programs in Fredericton.
