My name is Maggie Smith and I am originally from Amherst, Nova Scotia. I moved to Fredericton in 2003 to attend UNB majoring in European History. Eventually I realized this wasn’t for me and I transferred to the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. This is a great school to get those creative juices flowing. The teachers there are remarkable and help you any way they can. One of the techniques I used in this painting I learned from the Surface Design Program at NBCCD.
The Calm Before the Storm 19x15 by Maggie Smith
The piece I have put into this auction is called The Calm Before the Storm. I was watching the snowstorm we had awhile back and it had stuck in my mind. Although I am not a huge fan of snow, it was so pretty the way it was falling in the evening sky that I decided to give my interpretation of the storm. I used acrylic gel for the texture of the sky (a little trick I learned at the college) and acrylic paints for the sunset and snow. Whomever ends up with this piece, I hope they enjoy my calm snowfall all year round.
