Artist’s Statement
From a very young age I have had a need to express myself in pictures. I “need” to paint, to create something visual. It’s a kind of release of pent up emotions so that when I am painting I feel a real sense of calm in such a frantic world. I paint in watercolour because I love the spontaneity, subtle nuances and the sometimes unpredictable nature of the paint on paper. Animals have always fascinated me, especially the power, grace and beauty of horses. Through my paintings I hope to elicit an emotional reaction from the viewer, whether it be awe, wonder, or a fond remembrance of days gone by. - Sandi McKessock
