Chantal Richard has always had the urge to express herself on canvas. At the age of 12 she took her first art lessons and continued to study art for many years, completing the first year of a fine arts degree as an adult. However, career demands and motherhood put her passion on hold for a few years until one day, she picked up a brush again. That was six years ago and she has not been able to put the brush down since.
Chantal favours plein air painting, or painting on location, which allows her to combine painting and nature for a truly exhilarating experience. Her plein air pieces, (which can be viewed on her website: http://artpleinairchantal.blogspot.com/) are full of energy and vigour while her studio pieces tend to be more contemplative. Though coping with the elements can be challenging, she stops for nothing, painting even in extremely cold weather and on snowshoes. During the milder months she heads to Grand Manan Island for her annual painting trip and brings back many finished pieces as well as inspiration for many more. Her two children are her biggest fans.
